Philanthropy Partners of the Cape and Islands (PPCI) is pleased to invite you to its Annual Meeting.  The luncheon meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Cape Codder Resort, 1225 Iyannough Road, Hyannis.

The luncheon is free to members of the PPCI and non-members pay $35. To register for the luncheon please email [email protected] or register online at www.capecodgiving.org.  Deadline for registration is Friday, January 19, 2018.

About Our Speaker:


Abbie J. von Schelgell

Abbie J. von Schlegell has been in the development field for over 40 years, as a consultant for about half of her career with several national firms, and as a senior development officer with four institutions. She has held key development positions at Stanford University, where she was the Major Gifts director for Silicon Valley and at The University of Chicago in major gifts, capital campaigns and donor relations. Abbie also was the Chief Development Officer for the Shakespeare Theatre in Washington, D.C. and for Enterprise Community Partners in Columbia, MD.  In the summer of 2007, she moved her consulting practice to the Berkshires in western Massachusetts. She is currently a Certified Governance Trainer with BoardSource in addition to her own work with clients.

She is the editor of the first book on women’s philanthropy, Women as Donors, Women as Philanthropists, published by Jossey Bass in 1993, a best-selling handbook about women’s giving.  She has spoken widely on this important subject, written numerous articles and continued research in the field, serving on numerous panels and committees to explore the issues.

2018 NonProfit Workshops

Offered by SCORE Cape Cod & the Islands

Each program will be offered as a live workshop. As a placeholder we will schedule each workshop at SCORE’s Hyannis Office but other locations are being explored.  Workshops will be offered at no charge. Space will be limited so early registration is encouraged.

March 8, 2018 – Creating Your Operational Model Canvas for NonProfits 

The operational model canvas is a one-page summary of all the elements necessary to operate a nonprofit organization. Having it on one page gives you a high-level view enabling you to see the totality of your organization. We show you how to complete and use the form using a typical model nonprofit.

March 15, 2018 – Using Financial Reports for Decision Making 

In order for your nonprofit to fulfill its mission, it will need to sustain reasonably strong financial performance. This workshop covers the major nonprofit financial statements and how to use them to help determine your organization’s financial health and what you need to do to keep the organization financially healthy.

March 22, 2018 – NonProfit Succession Planning: the Lifeblood of Organizations

Effective succession planning is necessary to ensure leadership continuity in any nonprofit organization. Both contingent as well as departure-based succession planning is necessary.  This workshop will give you some ideas and tools to get you started.

March 29, 2018 – External Reporting: Requirements and Benefits 

There are a number of reports required by government authorities. A few are required of all nonprofits and others by only some. Every nonprofit needs to know of the filing requirements and what information is needed. These reports can also be helpful in collecting data for comparison purposes with other nonprofits.

April 7, 2018 – An Effective and Simplified Approach to Strategic Planning

Our strategic planning workshop is based on a planning methodology that has proven to be effective through our work with dozens of nonprofit organizations throughout the Cape & Islands. It’s about developing a guide for steering your nonprofit in a rapid response world. In the end, an effective strategy plan is realized through an action plan that is used on an ongoing basis.

April 12, 2018 – Creating a Development Plan: the Foundation of NonProfit Sustainability

Fundraising is a cornerstone for the vast majority of nonprofits. Without an effective development plan your mission is not accomplished and you generally end up closing your doors. This workshop is a primer on fundraising with an emphasis on the need to create a development plan for your nonprofit.
